Word bully. Word.

There’s new Android app out, it’s called Word Bully. At first when you watch this video, it comes out sounding like a YouTube joke or parody. It is, in fact, a legit app. It just came out last week and is free to download until October 15th. After that, it will cost $9.99 on Android Market.

The purpose is the following: for parents to be able to track any bullying, vulgarity, profanity, harassment, and key words to do with bullying on their childrens’ cell phones through text messaging. Parents can supervise what is going on at all times, and be notified via text message if their child is receiving any texts that are inappropriate.

This is useful for many reasons:

  • It will notify parents if their children are being contacted by cyber predators.
  • Instead of leaving it up to young children, who often do not recognize that they are, in fact, being “bullied”, parents can now keep track of what is going on and notify police if it is serious enough.
  • It lets parents breathe easier about their children having cell phones (and usually a big worry is cyberbullying and cybersafety – so this allows to monitor both).
I’m a fan. How about you? (As long as the child also knows!)
